Roaming, d’une idée de Ermanno Cristini, commissaire Alexandre Castiglioni, est une série d’expositions qui durent seulement le temps de l’inauguration : des flashs qui survivent dans le doigt des photographes et puis qui planent dans la dimension confuse du web.
Les expositions sont situées dans des espaces très appropriés et représentatifs par leur présence physique et l’importance de leur histoire – des immeubles industriels abandonnés et récupérés -, mais aussi par leurs présences symboliques – des lieux institutionnels comme un musée – et elles se caractérisent par leur rapidité et par les modalités d’occupation des espaces.
Les artistes changent selon une chaîne d’invitations qui met « sous échec » l’idée du curateur.
Dans la succession des invitations une ombre d’indicible reste étant donné que l’affinité est entre qui invite qui, et un maillon se casse plus loin. Un mécanisme de « chaos » et de hasard dans l’ensemble hétérogène se génère alors, retenu par chacun par une sorte de « organisation cachée »
En contradiction avec l’ampleur ou avec le style des locations, les oeuvres mettent en acte une présence discrète, dans les angles, dans les fissures, par terre, sur une échelle, au milieu d’autres oeuvres dans le musée, etc. ce qui les conduit à se faire découvrir peu à peu, presque comme en se montrant seulement à un autre regard, en plein contraste avec l’instant exaspéré, fugitif et éphémère de l’évènement.

Giancarlo Norese & Luigi Negro presented: A False Luke (Lu Cafausu) – a Collaborative project by artists Emilio Fantin, Luigi Negro, Giancarlo Norese and Cesare Pietroiusti.

It was an interesting discussion (completely in TXT chat) which was translated from italian to english as we went, and the discussion went in many different directions, turned kind of haywire, and ended abruptly – completely in line with the project itself. It was really good!

fama_fame / Ruhm - Hunger ist ein In Progress- Projekt, das sich bei jeder Ausstellung durch die Inputs die es vor Ort erhält weiterentwickelt. Das Konzept vom "Berühmt werden" befasst
sich mit dem Ehrgeiz des Künstlers im Kunstsystem anerkannt zu werden und der Notwendigkeit, im Alltag zu überleben. Metaphorisch gesehen repräsentiert es alle Beziehungen zwischen Leben, Liebe und Erfolg, dem Geld und den eigentlichen Grundbedürfnissen des Menschen.

Solothurn 2008. Nach der la Fabbrica di Losone (TI), die als Initiantin der Idee im letzten Jahr erstmalig Gastrecht gewährte, amtiert nun Solothurn als zweite Station. Hier werden voraussichtlich 27 Künstlerinnen- und Künstler aus der Schweiz und dem Ausland teilnehmen.
Organisatoren vor Ort sind Roberto De Luca und Meinrad Feuchter.
Unsere Ausstellungspartner in Solothurn sind die Stadt Solothurn (Bahnhofpassage als Ausstellungs- Lokalität) und das Künstlerhaus S11.
Zum Thema und zur Ausstellung erscheint ein Katalog mit Beiträgen verschiedener Autoren und den Kunstschaffenden. Ausgabedatum voraussichtlich ist der 27.Juli anlässlich der Finissage.

Spaces of public advertisements of Rovereto, Trento and Bolzano

A project in collaboration with Parallel Events yo Manifesta 7
and with the patronage of the Municipality of Trento.
After Bologna and Milan hundreds of yellow posters will invade main streets of Rovereto, Trento and Bolzano from 7th to 25th july during "Manifesta 7".

fuori contesto proposes words in the place of images. Words out of context because they are printed on 70x100 cm posters and diffused in spaces where public advertisements are affixed. The posters co-exist with the plethora of messages (from the media/advertising/information sectors, etc.) that invade the visual horizon of the city.

fuori contesto asks these words to infiltrate their surroundings, to be simultaneously light and significant.
The intent is to present an invasion of signs that, for their difference from the posters all around them, provoke an unexpected effect and distract the reader from his or her habitual urban landscape, structured as conceptual in its spatial organization. The aim is to provoke an interruption, capture one’s attention, and divert the normal course of one’s perception of the everyday, introducing a creative and active environment.

To fulfill this goal, we have called thirty-two Italian artists, inviting them to propose a sentence without an imposed theme to which they must adhere, and with the sole condition that the sentence contain only one period.
The initiative will evolve in various stages, thought of as a strategy of invasion and of re-appropriation of the urban space. The idea is also to expand each time the number of the partecipants by involving artists who live and work in the area.

Roaming, Assab One, Milano

Roaming, da un’idea di Ermanno Cristini, è una serie di mostre, curate da Alessandro Castiglioni, che durano solo il tempo dell'inaugurazione: dei flash che sopravvivono nel dito dei fotografi e poi galleggiano nella dimensione indistinta del web.
Roaming sarà ad Assab One a Milano il 12 giugno e poi circolerà, uguale ma sempre diverso nelle presenze degli artisti e dei fotografi, in diverse città in Italia e all’estero.

Localizzate in spazi fortemente conformativi e rappresentativi, per la loro presenza fisica e lo spessore della loro storia – immobili industriali dimessi e recuperati, ma anche per la loro presenza simbolica, sedi istituzionali come il museo – le mostre si caratterizzano per la rapidità e per le modalità di occupazione degli spazi.
Gli artisti cambiano secondo una catena di inviti che mette “sotto scacco” l'idea di un curatore. Nella successione degli inviti rimane un'ombra di indicibilità poiché l'affinità è tra chi invita chi, e un posto più in là si rompe. Si genera così un meccanismo di “caos” e di casualità nell'insieme eterogeneo, tenuto insieme dai singoli, con una sorta di “curatela velata”.

In contraddizione con l'ampiezza o con l'aura delle location, le opere mettono in atto una presenza discreta, negli angoli, negli interstizi, per terra, in cima ad una scala, mescolate ad altre opere nel museo, ecc. che le conduce a farsi scoprire piano piano, quasi mostrandosi solo ad uno sguardo secondo, in aperto contrasto con la fugacità e la transitorietà esasperata dell'evento.
Ma delle opere e della loro relazione con lo spazio, nella messa in mostra trasformata in evento, resta solo l’immagine del fotografo. E’ in forma di immagine che l’opera si dispone a circolare. E allora qual è l’opera? Quella dell’artista, del fotografo, l’operazione in sé?
Così il fotografo diventa parte integrante del nucleo di artisti e cambia ad ogni iniziativa mettendo in campo visioni diverse: il pubblicitario, il fotografo d’arte, il fotografo di architettura, e dunque diversi modi di percorrere il bordo tra opera e immagine, tra realtà e rappresentazione, tra reale e virtuale.

articule's annual curatorial project The Black Market Type & Print Shop, organized by curator Joseph del Pesco, presents typography as a vehicle for the dissemination of art. The project involves an extensive archive, based on appropriated type samples culled from exhibition catalogues and artist publications. About twenty fonts have been created without the permission of the artists, and their use is limited to the exhibition. Picking up on the groundwork laid by appropriation art in the Eighties, these types are a byproduct of art production extracted for a second use, but without modification or addition. With an interest in functionalizing contemporary art history, del Pesco seeks to encourage the transmission of cultural production by embedding its histories in distributed media.

The types are appropriated from: Vito Acconci, John Baldessari, R. Crumb, Julie Doucet, Jimmie Durham, Marcel Dzama, General Idea, Thomas Hirschhorn, Chris Johanson, Jasper Johns, Ray Johnson, Mike Kelley, Margaret Kilgallen, Duane Michals, Chris Ofili, Raymond Pettibon, Adrian Piper, Richard Prince, Dieter Roth and David Shrigley.

Following the completion of the archive, a group of 15 international artists were invited to create a text-only poster using the fonts to be distributed around Montreal. Furthermore, articule's space will be transformed into a full production environment with a computer and a photocopy machine. With the help of an in-house technician and graphic designer, visitors will be able to utilize the typefaces assembled in the archive to design and print their own posters in the gallery. The effect of which is a distribution of the aesthetics of contemporary art into the media stream of lost-dog announcements, rock show flyers, for-sale notices and other street-post ephemera. In this way The Black Market Type & Print Shop proposes an unusual inhabitation of preexisting modes of communication, mass production and distribution.

The Black Market Type & Print Shop is part of the 2008 edition of Viva! Art Action which focuses on, and celebrates performative and alternative practices that characterize the spring programming of La Centrale, Clark, DARE-DARE, Praxis, Skol and articule under the theme Performance, Activism and Everyday Life. www.vivamontreal.org
